Inbound is generally available

Mailtrap now receives email, not just sends it. Create an inbox, get a @inbound-mailtrap.io address, and any email sent to it lands in the API plus fires a webhook. Support for custom receiving domains is coming soon.

What you get out of the box

  • Inbound inboxes – Each gets an auto-generated address at @inbound-mailtrap.io, ready the moment you create it.

  • Folders to organize – Group inboxes by project, environment, or customer; permissions scope to the folder.

  • REST API – Folders, inboxes, and messages are full CRUD.

  • inbound_message_received webhook – Subscribe once and Mailtrap POSTs a signed event when mail lands.

  • Full message access – HTML body, plain text, headers, and attachments retrievable via the API.

What you can build with it

  • Reply-to workflows

  • Email-to-ticket pipelines

  • CRM enrichment

  • Email-driven automations – Trigger Zapier / n8n / Make on every receipt

  • AI triage – Stream inbound messages into an LLM agent that categorizes, drafts replies, or extracts entities

  • Bug / feedback capture
